Geek Guide to the Chic Side

Career Advancement is Motivation Enough

As I transitioned out of Technical Management and into Marketing and Product Management, it became increasingly clear that I would need additional skills.

Product Marketing requires more than just processes and technology expertise ― it also requires ‘soft’ skills, such as people, behavioral, interpersonal. To be successful, I had to get to work on acquiring those ‘soft’ skills.  The question was how?

STYLE TIPS

 1. Defining Personal Style

The first step toward defining your unique personal style begins with understanding yourself. It does not begin with the latest fashion trend.  Having a sound foundation of your personal style will enable you to shop more effectively, incorporate some of the latest fashion trends without being a fashion victim, and develop a well-rounded wardrobe.

 2. Assessing Ourselves

Who we are begins with assessing our self-image -- how we see and judge ourselves as a whole from the inside and out.  Our self-image helps determine clothing choices consistent with our innate self and how we feel about our body image. Our choices, in turn, reflect our self-image to others.  If our self-image is the result of incorrect assessments of our physical, psychological, or social self, our clothing and grooming choices may send conflicting messages that confuse both you and others, leading to negative reactions and responses.

 3. Projecting a Confident Style

Once we understand who we are, we need to assess how we feel about ourselves.  If we project ourselves with self-confidence, our image will reflect that attitude accordingly.  Self-confidence refers to our belief, trust, and reliance on us – our appearance, skills, and abilities we can count on to meet our needs and expectations.  Appearance is just one factor in the development of self-confidence.  Self-confidence increases when you know how to use your clothing to help develop, maintain, and modify your appearance according to your needs.
